Hailing from the Pacific, Namila Benson is a regular in the music and arts scene across Australia. Her love affair with radio kicked off in 1994 through volunteering at Melbourne community radio station, 3CR. And it was whilst completing her Communications degree at RMIT University that Namila got involved with Triple R FM. This move would combine her love of music, art and social issues through various on-air fills and which eventually led to hosting “Wax Lyrical”. As a morning Talks show host, she covered issues and discussions relating to race, culture, gender, health, education, legal topics and more. It also showcased Namila’s vast music collection of soul, global and hip hop tunes.

As a natural progression in her radio career, she made her way over to ABC International, working as the Producer of the internationally awarded Pacific Break competition. She continues to be involved with as a consultant.

She currently hosts Radio Australia’s midweek evening program (Tuesday to Thursday). A condensed version of the show can be heard nationally on ABC Local Radio every Saturday evening from 8-10pm (EST). With guest interviews and features, the show introduces ABC audiences to faces, places and events happening right across Australia,Asia, the Pacific and beyond.

Namila was a regular guest presenter on ABC-TV’s ‘Art Nation‘ show, where she tapped into the local and international arts world, bringing a fresh and diverse perspective of the arts.

She works the national cultural festival scene in Australia and partakes in numerous conferences and events as an MC, panellist and moderator.
